Design By Wire - In a Nutshell
The Ointment:
Here at Wasted Monkey Productions, we have noticed that some theatres and high schools often do not have the budgets to hire sound designers. We believe that nothing can replace having a sound designer in a production, but a production should not have to suffer mediocre sound due to finances. WMP wants to help. We offer an innovative audio service for theatrical productions Design by Wire. This service provides a production with audio content. Tell us what script, edition, and any conceptual ideas you have about the production and we will provide a Sound Cue Breakdown sheet with descriptions of possible sound cues. You revise those sound cues. We build them, burn them onto a CD and mail them to you to review. We then make the adjustments you desire. We send you the final sound cues for the show on CD and, you have a wildly successful show.
The Fly:
This service is not the same as hiring a sound designer. We will not be at technical rehearsals, and we do not supply any sound system hook-up diagrams or sound system support. Of course, you may hire us as sound designers. Please contact us for fees. Wasted Monkey Productions will not supply any published music for a production even if called for by the script. The theatre company or school must purchase any published music and is solely responsible for obtaining the rights to use the music. Original compositions for a production are available. Here's a detailed description of the Design by Wire service, what we need from you, what you will get from us, and what it will cost:
Conception Stage
1) We need to know what your production is and what version or edition of the script you are using. There is no need for you to provide us with a script; we provide our own. We need to know any cuts, additions, or alterations you are planning to make. We also require any conceptual ideas concerning the production. (i.e. a post-apocalyptic version of Macbeth).
2) We will take all this information and analyze the script, placing sound cues. Then we'll send you a Sound Cue Break Down Sheet. This sheet will detail each sound cue, the page number it occurs on, a name for the sound cue, the line in the script when the cue begins, the line when the cue ends, and a detailed description of the sound cue. (Example for you to look at.)
3) You revise these cues: making changes, additions, or cuts as you see fit. You are also free to add new cues. We'll provide an easy to use Sound Cue Break Down Revision Sheet. This is the only opportunity for free design changes to be made. Don't worry, "design" changes can still be made later. However, any design changes made later have an attached fee. Design changes include additional new cues or significant changes in the content of an existing cue. An example of a significant change in content would be changing a locomotive from a steam engine to a diesel engine. (Example for you to look at.) Send/fax/ us the revisions.
4) Within 1 week (maximum), we will make the changes and send you a Revised Sound Cue Break Down Sheet.
5) Look over the sheet and initial it for accuracy. Send/fax/ us the initialed sheet.
The Realization Stage:
6) Within 1 week (maximum), we will generate all your sound cues and burn them onto a CD. Then we send the CD, a CD Revision Sheet, and a script marked with the sound cues.
7) Listen to the CD, and detail any changes needed in the structure of the cue. Structural changes are: changing the length, perspective (i.e. nearer or farther away, panning, etc.), or mix (i.e. in a train station ambient sound, the crowd needs to be louder/quieter).
8) Within 1 week (maximum), we will make all the revisions and send you a CD containing all the sound cues for your production.
9) You have a stellar production run and usher in a new era of prosperity for your theatre or program. Unfortunately, Wasted Monkey Productions can not guarantee an era of prosperity. But we sincerely hope that it happens...

The whole service costs $100. We require $50 before we provide the first Sound Cue Break Down Sheet. The remaining balance must be paid before we send out the final CD. Our fee includes shipping of CDs by U.S. Postal Service Priority Mail, which is a 2-3 day delivery time. If faster shipping methods are required then other arrangements will be made. The only possible additional fees would result from making design changes after the final paperwork has been initialed, and any additional shipping charges. The additional fees are percentage based.
